Soaring in the heart of South America

We wanted a bird expert in Bolivia so we contacted Hugo Santa Cruz. When Hugo met us in person at the airport with his vehicle in Santa Cruz to start our trip we knew we were in good hands. Let the birding begin…First stop, the airport parking lot to see some rheas.
Hugo speaks perfect English so we could easily communicate.
We found it easy to spend time with Hugo for the several hours we were together. He is very polite, flexible and accommodating. He took good care to make sure we were comfortable and had what we needed during our travels. We found it enjoyable to take all of our meals together and Hugo was helpful in selecting the best meal options along our way. We also stayed in the same places. My favorite stay was at an Airbnb in Samaipata where we shared a house and had our own rooms and bathrooms. Otherwise, we stayed at the same hotel in separate rooms. The food and accommodations arrangement worked out very well.
Most importantly he has a great knowledge of the bird life in Bolivia and an expertise in knowing where to find the different species working hard and patiently for us to see what was available in all the areas we traveled to. He has great ears and knowledge of bird calls and songs. We saw a high volume of birds across many habitats in a short time thanks to Hugo.
Very pleased overall with our multi day trip with Hugo.
