Discover Bolivia: One of the World's Greatest Birding Destinations
Bolivia is one of the world's 15 megadiverse countries and ranks sixth globally in bird diversity, with nearly 1,500 recorded species. Its extraordinary variety of habitats ranges from snow-capped Andean peaks above 6,500 meters to the wetlands, tropical forests, and savannas of the Amazon and Pantanal lowlands at just 100 meters above sea level. Between these extremes lie the cloud forests of the Yungas, the rainforests of the Tropical Andes, and the vast dry forests of the Gran Chaco.
Home to 12 ecoregions and more than 20,000 plant species, Bolivia still preserves immense wilderness areas thanks to its low population density. Many of its national parks remain remarkably intact, offering exceptional opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation in authentic, uncrowded settings.
Despite this natural wealth, Bolivia faces increasing threats from forest fires, deforestation, and agricultural expansion. Sustainable activities such as birding tourism can play a key role in conserving forests, wetlands, and grasslands while supporting local communities.
Every tour you book helps support conservation. A portion of our revenue is invested in environmental education programs and the Bolivian Bird Fair, which promotes bird conservation, birdwatching, and sustainable livelihoods.
At Bolivia Birding Expeditions, we invite you to discover one of South America's last great wilderness destinations while helping preserve it for future generations.

What our guests say
I recommend Hugo as a birding guide without hesitation. He has a great knowledge of Bolivian birds, this being equaled by his ability to identify species by both sight and sound. Hugo is also highly professional and personable. I found him always punctual, enthusiastic and attentive to the needs of the group. He is fluent in Spanish and English, and manages logistics with ease. I would go birding with Hugo any time!
Richard Greenhalgh. Author of the book 1000 Birds of Bolivia
We wanted a bird expert in Bolivia so we contacted Hugo Santa Cruz.
When Hugo met us in person at the airport with his vehicle in Santa Cruz to start our trip we knew we were in good hands.
Hugo speaks perfect English, so we could easily communicate.
We found it easy to spend time with Hugo for the several hours we were together. He is very polite, flexible and accommodating.
He took good care to make sure we were comfortable and had what we needed during our travels. The food and accommodations arrangement worked out very well.
Most importantly he has a great knowledge of the bird life in Bolivia and an expertise in knowing where to find the different species working hard and patiently for us to see what was available in all the areas we traveled to. He has great ears and knowledge of bird calls and songs. We saw a high volume of birds across many habitats in a short time thanks to Hugo.
Very pleased overall with our multi day trip with Hugo.
